What Teams/Players Are You a Fan/Supporter of?

Post by Joey D »

What teams or players do you like and/or support?

NFL: Detroit Lions / Jacksonville Jaguars
MLB: Detroit Tigers
NBA: Detroit Pistons / Utah Jazz
NHL: Detroit Red Wings
MLS: Real Salt Lake
NCAA Basketball: Oakland University Golden Grizzlies
NCAA Football: Utah Utes
PGA: Rickie Fowler and Tony Finau

I like UEFA soccer, but I don't really have a team I support. If I had to pick one, maybe Dundee United? I don't really know enough about UEFA to say one way or another.

World Cup soccer, I typically pull for USMNT, but when they inevitably blow it, I also like the Netherlands, and I guess England, although I never have hope for them either.

With motorsports, I don't really have any favorites either. F1 isn't remotely interesting to me and I pretty much only want Red Bull to lose every race because I can't stand Max Verstappen. I don't care about NASCAR, the WRC hasn't been interesting in years, and endurance racing is OK to watch, but I don't follow it.

I don't really support any American teams. As I mentioned elsewhere I don't watch live sports outside of racing. I'll watch the highlights. I used to support Alabama in the NCAA but now I don't care if they win or lose.

I would like to see the Detroit Red Wings get back to the top again. I got season tickets for the Nashville Predators when they first entered the NHL and the Red Wings were in their division so I got to see them a lot. I have a Stevie Yzerman jersey and a Sergei Federov jersey hanging in my closet.

I guess the only non racing team I support is Liverpool Football Club in the English Premier League. We won the league last year with basically the same team that finished 2nd the previous season. But this year we spent a ton of money for attacking players We gave Mohamed Salah a new two year deal paying him a ton of money. But we didn't address the defense. This year we stole the first 5 games we played winning in the last few minutes of each game. But the new players aren't fitting in. The team isn't a team right now. The defense is getting exposed and we've lost the last three matches in a row. Plus Salah isn't doing anything at all. He's been my favorite player at the club but he's 33 years old now. I said we should not have resigned him. The Saudi league will pay a ton of money for him and we should have let him go in the off season. Hopefully he will respect the team and leave this next year and keep his status as a club legend.

For UEFA I like the way Spain plays. I think it's funny how England gets so close but still loses. I don't really like France as I can't stand Mbappe.

In F1 I've always been a Ferrari fan. I loved Michael Schumacher add I got to see him win in person at the USGP at Indianapolis. For individual drivers I like Lewis Hamilton. I don't like Max Verstappen. I respect his ability but I think he's a prick.

I suppose like most people i support my country, whether that's as Great Britain or England, in the sports that i do have interest in; football, rugby union and athletics (plus whatever others sports are represented in the Olympics or Commonwealth Games).

As for non-national teams:

I've been a life-long Liverpool FC supporter in football - but i also follow the fortunes of Harrogate Town (where i grew up) and Sheffield United (where i've lived since '95) but to a much lesser extent.

I've followed the NFL on and off since the mid eighties and during that time favoured at first, Miami Dolphins (blame Miami Vice and the fact that their at the time QB was another 'Dan') since then i've more favoured both the Seahawks and the Steelers.

As a life-long motorsports fan i've keenly followed F1 too, but have never really favoured a particular team. There's been plenty of drivers i've wanted to see win, but never a specific team.

I'm sports-agnostic but sometimes watch the occasional snooker tournament. This guy may not be history's greatest player but I'm a fan of his never-say-die attitude and unparalleled wit.

Working at NDSU means I have to support Bison football.

Being born in Georgia, I've recently started paying more attention to UGa football.

MLB - I watched a TON of Atlanta Braves baseball in the 90's but not much at all in the last 15+ years.

NFL - I was pro-Packers in the early 2000's simply because I worked with some bleed purple Viking's fans and it was fun to rub it in their faces. Now I'll watch pretty much any game, preferably is there's a former Bison player on the team, which is getting to be a surprising amount.

Racing - Never really got into F1 or WRC and Nascar is boring. ALMS was fun because of all the classes running at once but I haven't watched that in years, either.

The bubble was bound to burst sooner or later. I was expecting it would be when Klopp left, but to be fair Slot has on the whole hit the floor running. I'm just hoping that the new players he's brought in manage to gel with the team better than they have so far this (short) season.

I used to watch Red Wings back in the day and NHL in general a lot, but that was around the late 2000s and maybe early 2010s when Wings were great and Ovechkin and Crosby were still fresh young kids. I still kind of keep track of the team and watch some playoffs games here and there but not much usually. Other than that American sports don’t excite me.

I do watch some EPL and Champions League. I’ve always liked Arsenal and MU from EPL, but I’d say last ten years I’m mostly following the Gunners. They have improved a lot with Arteta and that’s great, but they still end up being just second. Hopefully that will change. At least I hope it will be more competitive this year. I guess worst case I’ll settle for some exciting games. Looks like we’ve got some Reds fans here, so hopefully it will be a battle to the bitter end this year unlike last. For now, everyone is close at the top, so we’ll see where it all ends up next year.

Other than EPL I try to follow Brazilian League a little bit, since my wife is from Rio. She doesn’t care about soccer, but her family does, so we sometimes chat about it. Fluminense is their team and they really hate Flamengo, so I guess I’m also a Flu fan a little bit. Soccer is really crazy there. I remember one night we went to bed and woke up due to insane screams outside. I thought someone was getting murdered, but it was just people watching Copa Libertatoders in the bar downstairs.

Good grief!! To lose 2-1 to Manchester United today AT ANFIELD!!!! 4 losses in a row and a good chance of getting beat at Eintracht Frankfurt in Champion's League this week to make it 5 in row which I don't think has happened since the 1950's or something like that.

Well that was a little better. Liverpool 5 Eintracht Frankfurt 1 and that was with both Salah and Kerkez not starting and Kerkez didn't even play.

Lately every time I hear the rumor that Real Madrid are interested in Konate I say, "How soon?!?!?". He's just fallen off a cliff but then again he's not the only one. I had a real bad feeling that Salah might go south after signing that contract. Maybe Saudi is still interested in him next summer.

Damn, Liverpool is kind of falling apart this season. I haven’t really watched any of the games, just the highlights here and there, but seems like they are just getting outplayed in the back and not having much going on in the offense too. Although they did beat Real, which was pretty impressive. So I guess there’s time for recovery. Arsenal on the other hand keeps on playing well, but it’s too early to say if they can win the title. Somehow Chelsea is in contention for it this year, which seems kind of surprising given how bad they been in recent years. I guess it should be an exciting season.
